Prospective Member's Class
At Covenant membership matters.
Many Christians have bought into the “evangelical myth,” believing that if they are listening to Christian music, reading Christian books, and have Christian friends, then they are living the Christian life. Others might say that they are closest to God when they are hunting or camping. Poet Emily Dickinson wrote,
Some keep the Sabbath going to Church –
I keep it, staying at Home –
With a Bobolink for a Chorister –
And an Orchard, for a Dome –
But, we find, in the example of Jesus Christ a much different example: ”And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day…” (Luke 4:16).
Gathering together with God’s covenant people was important to Jesus, and it’s important to us as believers today. Membership in a local gospel-centered church matters.
Therefore, our Prospective Member’s Class is designed to help you learn more about Covenant Presbyterian Church, our denomination (the Presbyterian Church in America), our doctrine, and our heritage. To accomplish this, we have designed a short class which meets weekly to cover a summary of what every new member should know.
In this class, we use two books:
In addition, if your schedule does not permit you to be a part of the class, or if you miss one of the sessions, a recording of each lecture is provided below:
