As the minister of Covenant Presbyterian Church, John’s passion is expositional preaching from the Bible. A gifted teacher, he is a pastor with real-world experience and a heart for leading others to the truth of the gospel.

John is a native and lifelong resident of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was born and reared in a faithful Christian home and professed a saving faith in Christ at a young age. John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, and is pursuing additional studies. John is a former real estate executive and spent 20 years in the business world.

John and his wife Sydney have been married for 19 years. They have three children who are actively involved at Covenant.

In this week's service, as we do the first Sunday of every month, we observed the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Dr. John Clayton also took a break from his current sermon series to continue his Lord's Supper Sunday sermon series through the book of Exodus with his sermon, "Victory Song," from Exodus 15:1-21. The hymns for this week were "We Gather Together," "Psalm 8," "My Faith Has Found a Resting Place," and "Amidst Us Our Beloved Stands." The service also featured a special offertory from the Covenant Handbell Ensemble.
